Your turn

Call, phone. Circle, hoop. Which word fits both: ring, shout, or wheel?

Show the answer

Ring! You can ring someone on the phone, and a ring is a circle.

The common mistake

Here's a common mistake. Look at, see. Clock, timer. Lots of people pick look, because it fits the first group. But it doesn't fit the second. Watch fits both: you watch a film, and you wear a watch.

Try it at home

Double meanings hunt: collect words with two meanings (bark, ring, watch, fall). For each one, make up two clue words for each meaning and test each other.

Hello, and welcome to Myriora English! Here are two groups of words, and three answers to choose from. Find the one answer that goes with both groups. Howl, yelp. Trunk, branch. Bark fits both! A dog barks, and bark covers a tree trunk.

Here's how to do it. Try each answer with the first group, and keep only the ones that fit. Then try those with the second group. Remember, the answer is one word with two different meanings.

Let's try one together. Autumn, season. Drop, tumble. Which word fits both: fall, spring, or trip? Say it out loud!

Fall! Fall is another word for autumn, and to fall means to drop. Well done if you said fall!

Here's a common mistake. Look at, see. Clock, timer. Lots of people pick look, because it fits the first group. But it doesn't fit the second. Watch fits both: you watch a film, and you wear a watch.

Your turn! Call, phone. Circle, hoop. Which word fits both: ring, shout, or wheel? Pick the right card. You've got eight seconds, or pause the video. Go!

Time's up! Ring! You can ring someone on the phone, and a ring is a circle.

Quick review. The answer has two different meanings. It must fit both groups. Check each answer with both groups, not just one. See you next time!
