Which one belongs?

11+Chapter 1 · Lesson 2

In this lesson

Your turn

Which picture belongs with these three?

Show the answer

All three arrows point straight up. Only picture B has an arrow pointing up, so it belongs.

The common mistake

Here's a common mistake. Choosing the picture that looks most like one of the three. Matching one picture isn't enough. It has to share what all three have.

Try it at home

Pick three objects that share one thing, such as being round or made of wood. Can someone else find the link, and add a fourth object that belongs?

Hello, and welcome to Myriora Non-verbal Reasoning! These three pictures belong together. Only one of the others belongs with them. Let's find out how to choose it.

Here's the trick. First, find what all three pictures share. Ignore anything that keeps changing. Then test each choice, one at a time.

Look at these three. The shape keeps changing, and so does the size. But all three are grey. Now test the choices. Only picture B is grey, so picture B belongs.

Here's a harder one. These three share two things: a dashed outline, and a circle inside. Picture A has the circle, but its outline is solid. Picture B is dashed, but it has a square inside. Picture C has both, so it belongs.

Let's try one together. Which picture belongs with these three? Here's a tip: count the dots on each one. Say it out loud!

The answer is picture B! All three have three dots, and picture B has three dots too.

Here's a common mistake. Choosing the picture that looks most like one of the three. Matching one picture isn't enough. It has to share what all three have.
