The common mistake
Here's a common mistake. What colour was the key? It smelled of rust, so lots of people say orange. But that's a guess from memory. The passage says brown. Always go back and check.
Try it at home
Read a short news story or a page of a book together. Ask one question, and have your child point to the words that give the answer before saying it.

Hello, and welcome to Myriora English! In a reading test, the answer to many questions is written right there in the passage. You just need to find it. Here's how.
First, read the whole passage once, just for the story. Don't try to remember it all. Next, read the question. What did the key smell of? Pick out the key word: smell. Now go back, and look for that word in the passage. It smelled of rust. So the answer is rust.
Sometimes the question uses different words from the passage. When did Mia try the key? The word when isn't in the passage, so look for a time word. That evening. So she tried it in the evening.
Let's try one together. Which lock did the key open? Say it out loud!
The garden shed! The passage says, only the garden shed opened.
Here's a common mistake. What colour was the key? It smelled of rust, so lots of people say orange. But that's a guess from memory. The passage says brown. Always go back and check.
Your turn! Read the passage, then answer the question. Where did Tom leave his lunch? Pick the right card. You've got fifteen seconds, or pause the video. Go!
