Ten new questions every time. Answer them all, then check: you get your score, and the working for anything you missed.
In this lesson
- Draw a line or a table.
- Put each fact on it, one sentence at a time.
- Watch words like shorter, younger and after.
Your turn
Lily is older than Max. Nia is younger than Max. Who is the oldest?
Show the answer
Lily! The order is Lily, then Max, then Nia.
The common mistake
Here's a common mistake. Jo is shorter than Kit. Lots of people put Jo higher on the line, just because Jo comes first in the sentence. But shorter means lower down. So Kit goes above Jo.
Try it at home
Line them up: use family members' heights, ages or birthdays to make two clues (Gran is older than Mum, Mum is older than me), then draw the line and ask who is first or last.

Hello, and welcome to Myriora English! Amy is taller than Ben. Cara is taller than Amy. Who is the shortest? It's much easier with a picture.
Here's the trick. Draw a line, with the tallest at the top and the shortest at the bottom. Amy is taller than Ben, so Amy goes above Ben. Cara is taller than Amy, so Cara goes above Amy. Now you can see it: Ben is the shortest.
Let's try one together. Dan finished before Eve. Finn finished after Eve. Who finished last? Say it out loud!
Finn! Put them in order: Dan, then Eve, then Finn. Well done if you said Finn!
Here's a common mistake. Jo is shorter than Kit. Lots of people put Jo higher on the line, just because Jo comes first in the sentence. But shorter means lower down. So Kit goes above Jo.
Your turn! Lily is older than Max. Nia is younger than Max. Who is the oldest? Pick the right card. You've got ten seconds, or pause the video. Go!
Time's up! Lily! The order is Lily, then Max, then Nia.
Quick review. Draw a line or a table. Put each fact on it, one sentence at a time. Watch words like shorter, younger and after. See you next time!
