Verbal reasoning check
Find out, topic by topic, what your child already knows, what needs teaching and what needs timed practice.
- Press the gold button below. Each step is one short sitting (5–15 minutes); one a day is plenty.
- Let your child answer alone. Nothing is marked until the end, and there is no clock on screen.
- Then follow “What to work on”. It lists what to teach first, what to practise and what to speed up, with links to the lessons.
How the check works, and how to use the results
Three questions per topic, one at a time. Two wrong answers in a topic skip to the next one. The time for each answer is kept for the Speed up result. If a question type is new, press “I haven't learnt this yet”: that is useful information, not a fail. Results stay in this browser only.
- Check first, teach second. The suggested order is the vocabulary level test, then the question types chapter by chapter, but any chapter can be checked on its own from “All results”.
- Teach first topics come before anything else: watch the lesson together, pause at "Your turn", then do the practice set on the same page. Take one or two a day, in the order shown, because later topics build on earlier ones.
- Practise topics: the idea is there but it slips. Repeat the lesson's practice set on different days until it is 9 or 10 out of 10.
- Speed up topics: accurate but slow. Short timed sets help most: ten questions from the practice page, aiming for the time shown.
- Secure topics: leave them, and mix them into revision now and then.
- Check again after two or three weeks. A topic moving from Teach first to Practise is real progress.
Short and often beats long and rare: 15–20 minutes a day is plenty. Wrong answers here are useful, not a failure; they show where to spend the time.
